| Note : | Janet's birth certificate registers her name as 'Janet Darling MURRAY', however on the marriage certificate for son Alex her name is 'Janet Darling Park MURRAY'. Janet had stayed in Scotland when the rest of the family emigrated to the USA/Canada (around 1910) because one of her daughters was ill and she did not want to arrive in time for the winter.. She was booked to travel in June 1914, but received the news of her husbands death a few days before she was due to sail. Left with little or no money (all their savingS had been transferred to Canada and furnature, etc. sold or given away) she was left destitute and relied on the support of the Band of Hope (Salvation Army). She remained in Scotland, subsequently adopting 2 further children. |
