Note : | A copy of David's birth certificate dated 1964 lists him as David Loudon, but has been annotated by him with the words "I am officially known as David Loudon Porteous". It does not bear the names of either parent. There is no corresponding record on the Scotland People website. He was 'adopted' by Janet Porteous, possibly as a baby. He was never told he was adopted and only discovered it when in his 20's. He spent most of his life as a piper in the Cameronians where he was more often known as Donald Porteous.
